How It Works

How does Kava Cure melt your tension, lift your mood, and sharpen mental clarity?

The extract in Kava Cure is a concentrated blend of Kavalactones – natural chemicals from the Kava Kava root. Their concentrations in kava plants varies from strain to strain, causing different strains to yield different effects.

When you take Kava Cure (either mixed in a drink or poured right under your tongue) you absorb its unique blend of Kavalactones through the skin of your mouth and tongue (and later through your digestive system).

Kava Cure’s first effect is more of a side-effect: you will notice a slight numbing of the gums and mouth that returns to normal after several minutes. (That’s why it’s nicer to use it after you’ve already eaten or an hour before you’ll eat again – you want to be able to taste your food!)

Almost immediately, you will start to notice a host of pleasant effects as the Kavalactones enter your bloodstream and travel to your brain and musculo-skeletal system. Most people feel a dawning physical and mental relaxation along with improved mood and gently increased focus.

Kavalactones: What’s the Science?

Kava Cure’s Kavalactones interact with the brain’s GABA system, causing muscle relaxant and pain-reducing effects.

Desmethoxyyangonin, one of the six major kavalactones, is a reversible MAO-B inhibitor and is able to increase dopamine levels, which may explain Kava’s mild euphoria.

Kavain inhibits the reuptake of noradrenalin (NA), a neurotransmitter involved in attention, which may explain Kava’s ability to enhance focus.

Studies suggest that Kavalactones act primarily on the limbic system, the primitive part of the brain that affects all other brain activities and is the principal seat of the emotions and of instinct. It is thought that kava may promote its anxiety-relieving and mood-elevating effects by altering the way in which the limbic system influences emotional processes, making Kava a truly unique anti-anxiety agent.

Kava has been used in daily rituals for centuries – possibly longer – by South Pacific islander populations without any serious side-effects. Unlike most drugs and medications, Kava does not create tolerance in people who use it. In animal studies involving huge doses of Kavalactones, the animals never develop tolerance or addiction to Kava.
